Wrap-Up

May Wrap-Up (2019)

Another wrap-up post immensely late but ha well, 2019 has been a blogging failure for me so far so what can I say!
I read very few in May but some really great novels. A Memory Called Empire is a new favourite and The City of Brass definitely deserve the hype, I can’t wait to get to its sequel. Storm of Locusts was really great, I liked it more than the first book even. Entends la nuit is a French novel and I liked some things while I hated others, so not a boring read at least. And Sorcerer to the crown was a re-read before starting the sequel, always a favourite! I also read half of The Way of Kings, which could count for a full book since it’s more than 1000 pages, but I’ll count it for the June post!

A Memory Called Empire (Teixcalaan #1), by Arkady Martine

The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1), by S.A. Chakraborty

Storm of Locusts (The Sixth World #2), by Rebecca Roanhorse

Entends la nuit, by Catherine Dufour

Sorcerer to the Crown (Sorcerer Royal #1), by Zen Cho

  1. I’m really excited but nervous to read A Memory Called Empire. I’m trying to wait until I feel like I can really concentrate, but… 😅

I didn’t realize you’d read Trail of Lightning, let alone the sequel! I’m so glad you liked it. I really need to read it soon.

Interesting about City of Brass. I DNF’d the audiobook last year. To be fair, I had the flu and couldn’t concentrate at all, but I was also worried about which way it was headed romance-wise. 🙊

    1. Yeah I understand, it’s really a difficult book to read with bits here and there. It’ll still be there when you feel like it in the future 😀

The sequel was so much better imo!

Oh no no nono don’t worry about this aspect AT ALL. I was worried too, but a friend told me to trust her (like I’m doing now hahah) and it’s really great, the second half is so good!!

  2. I also reread Sorcerer to the Crown this year and it is just so good the second time around too. Zacharias ❤ I currently have Storm of Locusts sitting in my online basket as ebook. Trail of Lightning was a lot of fun.

    1. So so good, Sorcerer to the Crown will def become a book I’ll re-read several times over the years!

Ohh I hope you’ll like it! I read it as ebook too but I love the cover so much I might have to buy physical copies some day!

  3. A Memory Called Empire sounds interesting but I think I remember reading that it’s quite dense/detailed at points, so perhaps not one for me right now, haha. Hopefully I can give it a go at some point though!

Great to hear about City of Brass too! I think I’ll try borrowing it at some point and see what I think of it. I’ve heard enough friends raving about it that of course my interest has been piqued, hehe.

    1. Yeah Memory Called Empire needs a reader that can concentrate on it at 100% tbh, but it’s really rewarding!

It’s so good, the second half is great and I’m glad my worries about the romance were negated, the author really did a great job on this point. Hope you’ll like it when you get to it 😀
