Christmas presents (2017)

christmas presents 2017

Like most bookworms, my christmas presents mostly involved books!
Here’s a little post to tell you about the one I got, why I wanted them (because my family still uses lists to make life easier for ourselves!) and maybe make you as excited for them as I am!

La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust #1), by Philip Pullman
Because of course! I need to re-read His Dark Materials first but I’m so excited, the naked hardback is so pretty ✨

A Matter of Oaths, by Helen S. Wright
I heard about this older scifi book on twitter because it was finally being re-published with a non-whitewashed cover. Plus, knowing that Becky Chambers wrote an introduction for it really made me want to give it a try!

Amberlough (The Amberlough Dossier #1), by Lara Elena Donnelly
Le Carré meets Cabaret in this debut spy thriller as a gay double-agent schemes to protect his smuggler lover during the rise of a fascist government coup” (goodreads) Doesn’t this sounds fabulous??
I know the sequel won’t come out in hardback like this one but it was too pretty to resist. I heard many amazing things about this book from Crini and April-Jane, and since I trust them both I knew I needed to read this!

An Unkindness of Ghosts, by Rivers Solomon
A neuroatypical main character, a spaceship colony, a story addressing gender and racial identity : this is what I heard about this book and it’s exactly the kind I’m interested in!

The Ruin of Angels (Craft Sequence #6), by Max Gladstone
I already read an ARC of this book this summer (and reviewed it!) and I loved it so much that I wanted a finished copy on my shelf!! The Craft Sequence has become one of my new favourite series this year.

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep #1), by Mira Grant
I really enjoyed the prequel novella (Rolling in the Deep) so I was super excited to read more with these killer mermaids!

The Ninth Rain (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy #1), by Jen Williams
Quoting one of the many tweets of the author that made me want to read her book, this book contains “witches, bats, explosions, sass & danger” and also deals with women oppression? She just sells it so well that I needed to get this, and I love this cover!

Le Régiment monstrueux (Discworld #31), by Terry Pratchett, Patrick Couton (Translator)
Timbré (Discworld #33), by Terry Pratchett, Patrick Couton (Translator)
Ronde de nuit (Discworld #29), by Terry Pratchett, Patrick Couton (Translator)
I am still collecting these editions of the french translation of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld and I am very happy with these new additions! They are not in print anymore and finding new ones in such perfect state has started to be rarer! I heard amazing things about Monstrous Regiment specifically!

Vaiana, la légende du bout du monde (Disney)
We’re also collecting Disney DVDs so this was expected! I’m really looking forward to re-watch this movie and sing along.

The Invisible Child and The Fir Tree (Mumintrollen), by Tove Jansson
I had never read anything from this author and this was a lovely gift from a dear friend ❤ I read this short book already and it was super cute and adorable, perfect for the season!

Buckbeak figurine
This was a surprise and I was delighted! I love Buckbeak and it is already sitting proudly on my Harry Potter shelf ❤

I also had chocolates, some money and a Disney pass for the year from my boyfriend (!!) and am spending lovely days with my family!

Spot any favourites? I’m so excited for all of these books that I do not know which one I will start reading first!
I hope everyone had a lovely christmas and is ready for the new year!

  1. I haven’t heard of A Matter of Oaths before, so I’m curious to know what you think of it! And I’ve had An Unkindness of Ghosts on my radar for a while, I’m just hoping my library will buy a copy of it. I don’t think I know anyone who’s actually read it yet.

    1. I found out about it because someone I was following loved it along with a lot of old scifi books! I’m looking forward to read it!
I think I’ve seen two people read Unkindness of Ghosts! I’m so hyped!! I know it won’t be light read but I’m excited anyway!

        1. Oh I didn’t know, it’s the least expensive for me 😮
Well I’m sure this book will get a US release at one point!:) I think I recall that the author’s trilogy only got an US publisher recently!
